air pump hose to ACV

I just removed my airpump for the TID mod but I'm leaving the ACV on atleast for a while. too lazy to order a block off plate and remove it.

right now that hose is sucking air into the AVC I think at idle. it's pretty loud. should I leave it or plug it? should it be sucking ??...

If you had a n/a, I'd say take the BLUE connector off the relief solenoid on the drivers side of the engine. BUT if you have a turbo that won't work because of the differences in the acv's. On the turbo try taking the grey or Switching solenoid valves connector off and see if the flow stops at the inlet to the acv(where the airpump hose was). If that does not stop it go with the small air filter that can be had at PepBoys and put it on the acv inlet. If it still leaked after the switching solenoid had its plug taken off(grey) then I suppose the leaking is thru the aav in the acv. That causes fresh air to be sucked into the intake during rapid deceleration. I've seen those small air filters at PepBoys but never bought one before so I've no idea how hard it is to fit one. Jpg attached:

I just thought about this some more. If your acv is an old one, I would bet money the switching diaphram is toast inside it. To prove so, look at the acv. On top it has one hose sticking straight out going to your boost sensor. Just to the left of that one, is a hose sticking straight up. Put a piece of spare vac hose on that NIPPLE and suck. Do you pull a vacuum???? It holds when you put your tongue over the end of the hose???/ Just suck air???/ Just sucking air means the diaphram is toast, as in SHOT, NG, ETC. That would mean that in my first post where I suggested pulling the grey connector off over on the drivers side of the engine, will not work because the switching diaphram is brittle and cracked from the heat. You can replace that diaphram at some later date with a diaphram from some older acv from a 82 or so model car, but a small amount of metal filing is required. About five minutes worth of filing.

I'd still check to see if you can pull a vacuum on the nipple for the switching diaphram in the acv. Might be useful if you ever have to get an emissions check and don't pass. If nothing else, just put a wooden dowel in the hose going to the acv. Same as blocking it off and easier.

I passed emmissions yesterday pretty good before I started ripping everything off . so it's probably ok. I'll check the vacuum stuff later. gota work this morning.

I'm pretty sure having no airpump will make the cat last longer. the air from the air pump is what heats the cat cause it causes the burning in the cat.

I have a 91 n/a and just removed the belt off the air pump. I read in a thread somewhere that the back pressure tube off the presilencer (which I have) opened the auxilory ports. So I wanted to see what happend. seemed like I had less acceleration between 7k-8.5k. Also noticed the car does not backfire anymore. Any pros or cons on this? Thanks Jason

on the 89-91 N/A's you need the airpump to open the 5/6 ports. ya yeah you just lost 15hp or so from 5000-8000

Thats what IVe been told, but I have also read that the back pressure tub from the presilencer is suppose to do that. I have also seen folks say that they have taken off there air pumps on there series V motors? I am going to put the belt back on, but why are there two variations of this story here?

Because there are two different cars. S4's use exhaust backpressure to open the aux ports, S5's use the air pump.
