air pump
air pump serves a few purposes depending on model (s4/s5). first, they feed air to the cats. take it off without removing the pre-cats and you're going to have clogged cats VERY soon. second, on the s5, air pump is what opens aux/vdi ports when necessary. if you pull the pump, you'll either have to wire them open or use the electric solenoid method (http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=46&co=1&vi=1)

Also, if you remove the air pump you'll need a dual belt alternator pully or yoohoo belt to get the proper tension on the water pump pulley. Elsewise it'll be underdriven which could lead to insuficient cooling.
ok sorry to thread jack but on my s5 the air pump has no belt hooked up to it should i hook one up then? also the pipe that im assuming runs from there that runs to the cat is snapped off at the cat should i get that fixed like asap?
Fixed. My airpump on the 89 GXL has been off quite some time with single belt and have never had any cooling issues. The needle never quite makes it half way. Although I am hooking it back up so the VDI can work properly
