air intake filter sound.

I have a cone air filter and you can barely hear it if im driving..the only time you know i have a filter is if you pump the gas then you hear the sucking..I like the deep sound of most intakes and wondering why mine isn't loud...is it because of the filter or there's no piping..?

i cant hear my intake unless my head is under the hood. and for what its worth, my head is never under my hood while i'm driving. don't worry about the sound. as your car grows and more and more is done to it, you'll most likely start complaining about the sounds and their noise.
dont expect much from a cone filter. maybe nothing. i wish a decent inexpensive intake was made for our car, but i've yet to see one.

Rx7's don't make much of an intake sound... nothings wrong... thats just the way it works. Seriously tho, if you want a car that makes alot of engine noise get a v6 or v8. The rotary just makes lots of exhaust noise.

actually, i've heard p-ports' intakes are about as loud as the exhaust! but p-ports are like a whole other universe. just sayin, anything suckin in air will make noise. but yes, they are known for their damn loud exhaust.

I have a cone filter and it hisses when I rev it. Also at high rpm I noticed a kinda throaty howl. You won't get a deep rumble with a rotary.

Hey J-Rat...what does your turbo sound like through the TID? I have a 2.5" TID and I don't hear much of a difference in spool up sound.

I don't wanna make a new thread about this question so ill post it in here..

-Does the air filter brand actually make a big difference? I don't think mine's a popular brand..I'm not sure what company made it because it was a birthday gift and the person bought it off ebay..

I have a 3 inch TID with aluminum piping, and a 60-1 turbo. Hell yes you hear it spool.. Sounds like a deranged vacuum cleaner.

No, and honestly all you need is a 15 dollar adapter on the AFM and a 20 dollar cone filter. You can take one of the air box supports, turn it upside down and run a 10mm bolt through it on the pressure sensor support and call it a day.

I would definatly say it makes a difference. Some filters don't filter well at all in tests, and some filter very well. HKS seems to totally fail the filtration test, while Apexi doesn't let any dirt or dust through. Also, super cheap brands like APC have been known to actually disintegrate and get sucked into the engine.
