air conditioning system removal?
I want to remove my a/c system but I have some questions first:
1 If I remove the a/c compressor thing will I loose my heater as well or are they seperate systems?
2 There seems to be a connection going from the power steering pump to the a/c below it do I have to cap this connection or is it just so the p/s pump can have some extra support?
3 If take the compressor off can I also remove the hoses or do I just cap the ends off?
Thanks!!

1) I pulled my A/C and my heater works fine.
2) I'm not familiar with that line
3) Take the lines out. If you are going to remove the A/C, do the whole thing. That includes the lines, The condensor, the compressor, and second radiator type thing (whats it called?) in front of your radiator.

ok I just ran to the car and checked it out and it was behind the black plastic cover
I guess you alredy to that stuff off but mine has two covers one behind the overflow tank and the other in front of where the intake in-let is. I got it now thanks dude that was helpful I will probably start doing this right no and finish up tomorow laters!

The condenser is the finned radiator in front of the stock radiator.
The drier is the can like device.
Remove everything as long as you are trashing your A/C.
There is no connection to the power steering, they are just sharing a bracket, and the lines are close together.
Federal law AND decency says have a profesional recover your freon so you don't contribute to ozone depletion.

Most people I know just open the line and it vents the freon into the atmosphere. Its under pressure, but it comes out as a gas.
The heat has nothing to do with the A/C. The heat is just hot coolant going through the heater core and a fan blows it into the vents to warm you up.
Taking out all the associated A/C components will lighten the car and it will be less parts turning when the A/C compressor isn't turning. The compressor doesn't cause that much resistance when the A/C is not on. The pulley is pretty much free-wheeling until you turn it on. It has a magnetic clutch that engages the pulley to the pump. Every little bit helps.

Its mounted under/in front of the radiator. You can either remove the rad to get at it from the top. Or go from under and try to take it out w/o damaging the oil cooler or rad (its mounted inbetween the two).

Over all, is it worth taking out the a/c? How much room could you save for mods? If you took out the a/c would you be tampering with ne of the computer sensors? IE bi-anual smog... The devil to an rx7

there was no gas in the lines when I opened them In my oppinion it is worth it the compressor is like 20lbs and the lines are like another 5 and the canister thing is a couple more I would say that much weight getting taken off the car is worth a lot to me there was a little more space in the engine bay but mostly I think it just looks less cluttered. (my a/c did not work anyways so why have it if I am not going to use it)

The hole in the ozone layer in the antartic is closing and infact is now two smaller holes. Vent your freon with abandon brother. ...Okay maybe it's still not a nice thing to do.
