Ahhhh... Antifreeze Blast!! another prob

Ok i finally got the car running right thanks to billsrx7 and i put the exhaust on and everything.... so i was driving around and the "add coolant" alarm and light wont go away. it definatly is not low i added a lot and it still has a lot. i was driving around to check it out and as the rpms got higher the alarm would go away. next thing i know i saw some antifreeze on my windshield so i got home asap "like 45secs if that"and i noticed the alarm went and stayed on and the temp started rising. as soon as i shut the car off the front end whoooosh went up in smoke. Antifreeze was blowing out of the overflow tank. the engine seemed a little hotter than normal but what sucks is that i felt the radiator and it was cool!!! damn!! im gonna check it out tomarrow.. maybe a thermostat??

See how those little lights & buzzers can save your ***?

When you have the thermostat housing open, check the condition of the bypass port that's about 1" below the stat. The spring loaded disc on the bottom of the stat should cover it & close it.

Get an OEM one from the dealership. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and $.

Take it back and get a Mazda thermostat. I tried a NAPA stat once and it failed in 2 weeks.

GRrrrrrrr

Ok i went outside and started the car just a few min ago. As the temp climbed the radiator stayed cool. when it got to the 75% mark on the temp gauge i revved it up a little bit and after 3-4 secs the temp dropped verry fast and the upper hose got hot along with a little bit of the radiator. It stayed at the 1/2 way mark as long as i kept it at about 2500-3000 rpm then that no longer worked and the temp rose rapidly so i shut it off immediatly.

About a week ago when i took the car for a test drive the temp stayed at about 1/2 way but the buzzer would stay on telling me to add coolant unless i accelerated..

A little help guys.. Thanks in advance

Since the only thing that's supposed to move coolant is the water pump, I'd say put another one in there. Grab a remanufactured unit or try one from a wreckers.

It seems clear that your coolant is not flowing properly. If things don't change with the OEM thermostat, I think that the next step is to replace the water pump.

Check the water pump pulley, too. Make sure that it is clean and dry where the belt sits. For all you know, it could be slipping...

lol

Well it was an easy fis.... i think...

I went outside when the car was cooled off to look it over. I took the cap off to see how much coolant was in there and it was full. I was thinking what the hell... the radiator was not getting hot at all. I then took the sensor off of the top of the radiator to see if it was fryed. It did look a little melted but i heard a little gurgle and looked into the radiator through that hole with a flashlight and It was EMPTY. with the sensor out i was able to add about a gallon of antifreeze mix. Buzzer went away!! Temp stayed at 1/2 way!! Haha finally i didnt have t pay a tone of $$ to fix something.

Thanks to all!!

Grrrrrr!!!

New thermostat, New water pump and New cap.
Checked hoses and ther seem good.
Radiator flows perfect.

It came back. temp gauge goes from 50% to maxed out then drops negative and no longer works in a matter of like 5 seconds.

It seems to me like the car only wants to hold like 70% of the coolant that it is supposed to. when i fill it up it spits it out of the overflow. after i start it again "with less coolant" the car runs for about 10 min b4 overheating again.

I dont know if you all remember the setup i have but here it is. 91 non turbo rx-7 WITH 91 computer. BUT its an 88 engine. i got it out of limp mode "thanks to billsrx7" by connecting an electric omp. also the arms that the tps hit had to be taken off of a 91 tb and put on the 88 tb. just an idea but could the manual omp on the engine not be working correctly b/c of this setup... would it cause the car to act like this?

Hmmm... sounds like a water jacket. I had the same issue. Start saving for a rebuild.
