Ah.. surging is driving me insane :)

I figured out my idle problem for the most part. I check my TPS and all seems good and adjusted well.

Now my big issue is the lack of power and surging.

Occasionally the car will run with full power and smooth as silk.. then will begin surging... then will run like crap sounding like a lawnmower with no power.

Guy that I got it from says he replaced the fuel filter.. gonna check into that..

Anyone have any clue what it is?

Did you just get the car? Have you changed the oil, oil filter? Changed the plugs & wires?

No sure kill answer from me. I've seen a tps that would work good at times, but when it got a good heat soak it would do similar things to your car. Thats just a thought. You might put your meter on it and monitor the resistance as you slowly depress and release the plunger looking for *opens* and irregularities. Another thing is to check the boost sensors electrical plug and especially the vac hose at both ends. For grins get your meter out and disconnect the boost sensor plug, and put your meter on ohms and with one lead on the brown wire with the black stripe(if you have a 88 its a pure black wire)and see what the resistance is from that wire to the neg terminal on the battery. Has to be one ohm or less to make me happy. If not work on the grounds. It would be interesting to monitor the output of the tps when this surging happens with a volt meter. Could you describe the surging some more. Happens at a steady 70mph? 60mph? Stomping on the throttle? Is surging akin to bucking? Check and make sure the rectangular plug is secure on the afm Might take it off and reseat it. Same with the water termo sensor on the back of the water pump. If it happens above 3500rpm, check the secondary injector plugs for security.
