It aggravates me that my boss's 85 with 182,000 runs as good as my 88 vert

I am driving my boss's car till I get the title straight with my 88 vert and it seems like the old 85 12A runs as good as my 13b in my vert. It has 182000+ on it on the original motor and it runs pretty good although I know it is not quite as fast as it seems as I notice in 4th gear I am not really going that fast. but compared to my 88 which is running pretty good , it just feels like it runs better.

I have had a 79 & 85 but that was years ago.

just doesnt seem right that the old 85 should even run that good all stock and ugly as hell.....

But even the 12A-powered 1st gens were as quick as the verts. And the SE was faster. True, they have less power, but the verts are so much heavier that they need every one of those extra horses. The zero-to-sixty times between the vert and the 12A are actually very close.

Still, the vert has top-down capabilities, rack&pinion vs. the 1st gen's "wonder steering", fuel injection rather than a 4-barrel carb, and a better brakes/ suspension system. Almost makes the less-attractive body style worth the price of admission. Almost.

Maybe his was actually taken care of. Its not like its impossible for an RX-7 to be reliable and run properly.
