I hate how the AE taillights look like civic lights from a distance at night.........Before you try to give me **** go park your car and walk a good distance.....then try to argue....I went on a drive and an AE was there i swear thought.....WTF is that civic doing in the front?

thats okay, i confuse firebirds with FDs at night. if you dont know what i mean, you either havent seen an FD or new Firebird before with its lights on at night.
though why does an AE differ from other S4s? i wouldnt think the white would make a difference at night.

n4ji, probably has one of the nicest all-original examples I've ever seen. It really does look brand new. I'd kill for an interior like that!!!!

Its just an 88 T2 that weighs as much as a S4 'vert or S5 turbo.
I just don't get why anyone thinks its special. Even Road and Track said of the 10thAE:
Mazda may have made a minor mistake calling this turbo version the 10th Anniversary model, because of its shift away from the sports car and toward the overbur-dened luxury GT car, is a denial of the original concept.
But for the way we like to drive, the Turbo isn't as satisfying as the GTU. The turbocharger gives more power, of course, but the lag is unpleasant and the top-end improvement isn't great enough-nor achieved often enough-to make it a real improvement. And for some reason Mazda hasn't been able to get consistent, uniform quality in its turbo models. Our test car with only 1300 miles on it, had a clunky driveline emphasized by the poor low-end flexibility that made it hard to drive smoothly until we learned the trick of feathering the clutch and accelerator pedals. In fairness, the torque was better than our long-term Porsche 944, but this is damming praise.
For an expensive GT car, the ride is rock hard, with no compliance or suppleness-again, like the 944. This must be an attempt to cope with the turbo power, but nevertheless a lack of skill in tuning the chassis. And, considering that this model is the fully equipped luxury version for those who must have everything, it is unnecessarily crude. Not capably raw in the RX-7 tradition, but rude.
It's too bad, because the 10th Anniversary RX-7 has some very nice things, such as beautifully done leather interior, with extremely comfortable seats and excellent ergonomics. The concept of putting everything in the top model- power, grip, luxury equippement-without achieving an overall harmony is a mistake, for the ultimate satisfaction of the owner, even though it can produce a strong showing in the marketplace.
The [88] GTU is the true 10th-Anniversary version of the RX-7 and a worthy one. We'll pick it any day.

Wow... I come back from school and this thread has taken a turn for the worse. I figured I'd start a thread that would let people show off they're AEs, not be a jackass-a-thon for people like Ted. And for those of you who say why would you ever want an AE because they're the heavier than just a regular TII, I didn't buy the car to race I bought it because I thought it was the most awesome car that I had ever seen that I could afford.
Check your reasons on why you buy a car, if somebody's reason doesn't match up with yours then you can't hold that against them as to why they car is overrated or not. And as for parting it out, I'll take that as a joke.

As an owner of two AEs, naturally, they are my favorite RX-7. I love them dearly because of their rarity, and the fact that they are just simply a beautiful car. I think the pics posted prove that fact without further explanation.
One of my AEs is in rough shape. Half the paint is gone, the coolant seals are gone (it runs though, dammit, with over 200k miles, original engine), seats need to be redone... but that car retains all the features of a 10AE with maintenence and documentation going back to the inspection sheet when it was first taken off the delivery truck 16 years ago. It's my project, and the automotive love of my life.
My other AE has relatively decent paint, a strong-running motor for 168k miles, and a nice interior except for the fact that the AE seats and steering wheel were taken by a previous owner. It does have a couple of minor, fixable dings, but beyond that, the body is great. It's currently serving as my daily driver but is destined to be my autocross car.
AEs are absolutely lovely. Mine will never be sold, and I intend to pick up at least one more someday.

Dont take me wrong AE's are nice cars, as are all TII's, Verts, and every version of the NA. It all depends on what you want.
Is NOTA944's AE a nice example of an AE, not as an AE: not particuliarlly. As a modified TII, its very nice from a performance aspect.
Summers First AE: A nasty example of a poorly maintained car as descriped by Kevin Landers. A decent base to start a rebuild but it has a long way to go to be a premier example.
Franks AE, another example of a decent car destroyed by a kid with no business driving a TII, Frank is doing a nice job making a good driver, but it will neveer be a premier eample of the car that rolled off the showroom floor in 88.
Derricks AE: A very nice AE that is no longer an AE in the strictest interpretation of what it was sold as. It is a wonderfully performing car, the PO did a nice job of accessorizing it. BUT it is no longer a factoory AE.
The AE was a WONDERFULLY marketed COSMETIC package, with the allure of exclusivity. But its a TII with a COSMETIC package
The whats "the best FC: arguements are getting really really old. BUILD WHAT YOU WANT!!!! But don't build it to please a bunch of people on the internet!. Build what you want!, but if others don't like it; dont boo-hoo when someone pisses in your Cheerio's.
And to certain long-time forum members who don't even OWN a FC anymore: WHY DONT YOU BUILD THE CAR YOU KEEP SHOVING DOWN EVERYONE's THROAT. PUT UP OR SHUT UP and quit squirming on your hard-luck sob storeys about why you don't have a car!

It did definitely get struck with the AE paint-peel curse and the destroyed leather seat curse, but beyond that...
But yes, I see your point and agree otherwise.

Another thing concerning AE's:
Part of the Allure is the Bronze tinted glass. MANY Ae's windshields are cracked/pitted and there ARE NO MORe Bronze windshields available. And with the tint laws written like they are: You can not leagally tint a windshield to mimic the original effect. So when you replace the winshield you technically no longer have an authetic AE.
