AFM hypothetical
ok, hypothetically is is possible that my afm's spring has weakend over time on my S4 causing it to run rich? When i had the afm out the spring seemd real weak for about an 1/8 inch of travel, and all springs fatigue and take set, so shouldnt all the 20 year old afm springs be doing the same thing? does anyone else have this problem, or is it exclussive to me, and swaping it with a junkyard afm will fix it. Or am i just imagining everything?
isnt what im suggesting reasonable however?

The spring inside the AFM is very rigid and VERY rarely fails.
What makes you think it's the AFM? Did you get an error code? You should open it since there is no adjustment that could be done to it. Check the easy ones first rather than assuming something is not working and replacing it with a prefectly working part.
A bad AFM would probably give you major hesitation through all RPMs.

car puts out no codes, and im just guessing on the rich part., but shouldnt a 20 year old spring take set? im basically taking shots in the dark trying to pass smog, as we speak a new set of cats sits on my floor, just trying to find any problems before i go test again, and it seemed od to me that the spring would be very loose for the first 1/8th of travel, ill look at one in the junkyard tomarrow and see if its the same.
Mainly i think the afm is causing me a little greif because i get a little miss occasonally at idle, randomly, like one stoplight it idles perfectly, next stoplight it misses at idle. again, no codes
