AFM Alignment

Hello all,

My AFM appears to be acting up. When I accelerate, and let off the gas, i hear a flapping sound, which I 'think' is the flapper bouncing back and forth. I was told that simply leveling off the AFM would fix this, however it is level and still making the sound.

Is it time for a new one? I believe it's S4, but I will take pictures when I get home. The car is S4, with an S5 engine. Should it be sitting horizontally (flapper pivots horizontally)? Or should it be vertical (so the flapper pivots up and down)?

I searched this, but didn't find anything specific, as "AFM" comes up in many threads.

Thanks,

Dan

I believe it is supposed to be oriented with the black side horizontal.

The noise could be anything. How have you determined that it is the AFM?

I'm not 100% sure that the AFM is the problem, but in another thread I posted this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEsqWjXgg0U. Everyone seemed to agree that it was the flapper bouncing back and forth.

It makes sense to me, but I'm not expert - hence why I'm asking here.

Any other ideas?

there should be a spring on it(the flapper)..if it Flaps, then see about getting another one.The S4 AFM should be FLAT,the flapper should open like a regular Door(side to side),NOT like a Garage door though(up and down).
