Unhappy AE For $1200

I know this guy that is selling a 1988 10th AE for $1200, it needs motor work, I was wondering if this is a good deal. The body and interior are in great shape, it is just the engine that has problems. Should I buy it?How much would a new engine cost, or how much would it cost to rebuild the one in it? Any help would be great.

i got my 87 turbo with a wrecked front, sort of bad paintjob and 108k on the tach. for 1k. and if that just needs engine work i think thats pretty good. and also considering its a AE, its sort of cool/rare to have.

rebuilds start at around $1900...

some sources for parts/rebuilds:

http://www.pineappleracing.com
http://www.mazdatrix.com

and do a search in the forum for more

Thanks for the input. I checked out the links that you gave me, and the pineapple racing one will be good to remember. I also saw on

www.thepartstrader.com

a couple of different pieces that I was thinking about.

Thanks again for the input.

No, It wasn't listed. I am thinking about going ahead and buying it. I am not sure what exactly is wrong with the engine, but I am hoping that the guy is just stupid, and it will be something easy. A friend of mine bought a corvette from this one guy for like a grand because the guys said the engine was blown, it ended up just having the spark plug wires all on the wrong firing sequence. So even if it is something else, I have at least a body to work with and I can get a new engine or rebuild. By the way, nice pic. Who is the girl?

Thanks that would be helpful, the only stuff that I know about rotaries is what I have read online, and not too much in the way of actual hands on. I have driven a few T2's, and that is why I wanted one. I will find out when I can get over there next. I will let you know. Thanks
