Advise on Blown Engine/ warranty
Ok, I just blew a fresh 88 T2 Atkins Street Port. Less than a hundred miles on it. Let me fill you in in short.
Some of you may remember all my threads while I was working out the kinks. This car had sat for 4 years, so things stuck, where missing, ect. I finnaly worked them all out, and passed smog here in california. The very next day on my way to Mazda, to pick up a fuel filter, the engine just plain died on me. No bang, no nothing, except some slight engine loss right before it gave. I was cruising at 70 in 5th gear up a hill. It appears I blew a bearing. Reason I say, I found brass/copper shavings in my Oil Filter once I cut it apart.
What cause this? Not exactly sure. But, there was one point when the linkage got stuck, and upon start-up, the idle climbed to 4500 very quickly. This happened 4-5 times.
Now, the guys at Atkins asked if it ever reved up beyond 5k. It had not.
My question:
Should I push for warranty, or just flat out buy a new one?
I can see it now. I return this engine as a core, and they go," WTF? This is a fresh street port!".....
Thanks,
Chris
