Unhappy Add coolant buzzer......WTF??

OK, so I was driving down the road, and all of a sudden I heard a warning buzzer, and I looked at the idiot lights and the add coolant light was on, the it went out in like 2 seconds. I thought that was kinda strange, but I just kept going. About an hour later it did it again, just for about 5 seconds. This time I pulled over and checked the coolant, it was full. I was like WTF?? So about 1 hr later I was almost home, about 2 minutes from my house, and it went off again, this time it never went off. I drove it to my garage and thats where it is parked now, every time I start it the add coolant buzzer comes on, and the coolant is full. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?? Its not overheating or anything at all. Really strange. Thanks alot.

Check the connector on top to be sure its plugged up, and make sure the wire isn't broken somewhere.

Possibly (I doubt it), you may need to bleed the cooling system.

how many miles on motor? could be an early warning sign of bad water seals. i know this is how both of mine started out. just keep an eye on the level, and keep an eye on the overflow tank. when they start to go, this will start to "overflow" due to the presure given out by the motor thru the water seals when it is under load. do a test on your coolant system. put it under pressure. you can also check your plugs for coolant. you could also change your thermostat for like $9.00 and see if that could be it. just giving some options being as the search function is down and i can't tell you to search. not that i would tell you that....

Make sure your cap is screwed on tight and check the coolant hoses off the engine. I had a slight crack in mine that dribbled a tiny amount of coolant—unnoticable amounts when driving. after replacing the hose I never had a problem again.

In my case it was the water pump going bad and allowing a pressure drop intermitently - take a look at the 'weep' hole in the bottom of the pump [might need a mirror] for signs of coolant, may leak either cold or hot - if you see any streak marks the pump is failing.

Bleed the radiator. Phillips head bleed screw on the right side of the radiator. You'll see the water at the cap go down when you unscrew the bleed screw. Fill at the cap until water comes out the bleed screw hole and simultaniously screw the screw while continuing to fill. But you probably already knew that.

Thanks for the ideas. I just did a coolant flush last summer, and havent had any problems since then. Ill check it out today and try some of those things and tell you how it goes. thanks.

Mine did the same thing when I installed a new thermostat. Bleed the air out of the radiator with the bleed valve on the top of the passenger side of the radiator.

Make sure you check the actual sensor. It is just a piece of metal that sticks down into the top of the radiator, and has a wire coming out of it. It screws in, and the top of it looks like a hex nut. Make sure this wire is making good contact (meaning it is NOT broken).

The way the sensor works is that when the coolant is high enough, the metal rod makes contact with the coolant, and completes the circut (it goes to ground). When the coolant is too low, then the circut is incomplete, and so it buzzes.

Mine started out intermittently, then eventually the wire broke totally off. I just grounded it temporarily (to shut the buzzer off), and am waiting for the replacment sensor (~$7.00 from Mazdatrix) to get here.

this is what is going on with mine now. I can see water leaking for the water pump

are you just checking the overfull tank? or the level in the rad aswell? you need to check the rad. looking at the over full tank won't help.

before my engine had its rebuild/facelift this happened to me too. i found out that oil in the coolant was the culprit.
