ACV wiring
there are two sets of wires with connectors on the ACV on my 88 TII. one set, facing the right side of the car is color coded black and black with white stripe and a white connector and the other set comes out of the ACV and faces the front of the car and is color coded the same, only this one has a black connector. where do these wires get plugged into? what purpose do they serve? they look as though they go to some sort of a sender that it threaded directly into the acv.

They are the split air and port air solenoids, and they plug into the stock wiring. Check the FSM or this website for the NA equivalents.

Like me, you could look in the online FSM and tell what the two solenoids do in life. Look at the wiring diagrams for the right wire colors for each solenoid.
Split Air Solenoid only works/opens in FIFTH gear.
Port Air Solenoid........depends. If under 20,000 miles it does not open. If above 20,000 miles it opens under certain conditons. Also if you hit 100,000 miles, the cycle starts all over again until you hit 120,000 miles on the odometer again. I've been there, seen that. When you hit 200,000 miles the cycle starts all over. It's a fault in the system but it matters not. It does little in life.
The ACV is controled by the Switching and Relief solenods on the left side of the engine. Those two items decide if the ACV works during emissions testing, NOT the two solenoids on the ACV itself.
It's written in the FSM.

thank you for the response. i'm not great at reading wiring diagrams so its difficult to put an exact location on what connectors go to what based on the fsm. i did look in the online fsm and it gives no description of the port air solenoid valve or the split air solenoid valve in the component description. i had no idea what the two solenoids functions were.
