Arrow ACV block off plate

about 7 years ago i bought my exaust system from mazdatrix. stated below in signature. it came with a block off plate for the ACV and i never got around to putting it on. then about 3 years ago, maybe less, the bracket for the air pump broke. i never fixed that either. i slapped on a dual pulley on the alternator so im not going back now. is there any reason why i shouldn't go ahead and block off the ACV?

If you don't have to do emissions testing, nope.

it takes the air pump air and routes it to different places based on RPM and load, to lower emissions. since you don't have the air pump, its been a decoration for a while anyways

If you remove the ACV there "might" be some bucking on deceleration although you might not notice it at all. The Anti Afterburn valve located inside the ACV helps to prevent backfiring when the foot is taken off of the gas pedal.

If his air pump is gone, the AAV wasn't working unless he left the ACV inlet uncapped. Engine vacuum would still pull air on decel (a vacuum leak really), while under normal circumstances the air pump would push air into the intake via the AAV. But if it ACV inlet was capped, it would just prevent the vacuum leak on decel.

Quick like a bunny rabbit...............is the ACV now at this minute ON the car or OFF the car?

If the ACV is off the car, then that will cause problems if you don't put on a blockoff plate WITH a gasket. A good gasket.

My vote for blocking it off. But as it's stated, it's for emissions so if you need it, keep it, if not, block it well (Proper gasket with bolts slightly higher than torque specs).

I think I'd remove it. And make sure I installed a good gasket, Make one. Buy some gasket material from Autozone/PepBoys and cut the outline from laying the ACV on top of it and marking the shape on the gasket matl and cut out with sissiors. No need to cut out the inner shapes, just a plain flat gasket covering all the cavities. I'd save the spoked checkvalve for another day.

Not much harm leaving it in place imho unless there's a defect inside it creating a vacuum leak to the intake runners.

Save the ACV.

It's on the side of the lower-intake manifold which connects to the airpump. It's got a valve looking thing on top of it, with a couple of vacuum lines coming out of it.
