Ack, my car scared the ^*() out of me
I was coming home today, I downshifted to 4th to pass a truck that was blocking the fast lane. Just as i was done passing him and let off, car kept going. Turns out my floor mat got caught under the pedal causing it to stuck. I was doing really fast when i passed him, it scared teh crap out of me when it happened. I felt so hopeless.
Anyway, anyone had that happened to him? Also do you guys have solution to get those aftermarket floor mats to stay in 1 place, mine moves all the time

Same damn thing happened to me. Scared the crap out of me too. I went to shift and all the sudden my rpms flew to 8k when i was in between gears in nuetral so i quicky shifted and moved the mat. Scary crap I tell ya.

had a similat problem with my 85, only when i floored it the peddel just sat at the floor, only way to lower rpm from 8K+ was to turn the thing off and sometimes would go right back up there, never figurered out what it was

This happened to me in my Cosmo. I used to work at the airport, and the entrance to my work was next to the airside/landside boundary checkpoint, complete with security guards. I come around a corner and gun it (WOT) towards the checkpoint for a sec then lift off to turn into work. But I didn't slow down... I stomp the clutch so I don't accelerate through the barrier arm, instant 8K! I grab for the ignition key and nothing happens! Half a sec later I figure it out. Turbo timer! I hit the kill button and finally it dies. To this day I have no idea what caused it, but it never did it again in 3 years. Took a couple of days to regain the courage to floor it though!

They make little clips that attach a floormat to the carpet. I imagine if it's pretty bad, then you could use some zipties punched through the floormat and attached to the seat.

similar thing happened to me last sunday... me n my boi was leaving for a road trip... when i pulled on to the main road leaving his crib, i gunned it.. fine til i tried to shift into 3rd...when i came out of 2nd, my gas pedal went dead, n the engine revved to 8k... it was there for a few secs n i jus cut the ignition off.. cut it back on, pop the clutch, same problem.. so i do this couple of times so that i can pull over somewat safely... pop the hood, look around the throttle body, see something loose, pull on the cable leading to the pedal, nothing... just softly pulling the cable here n there, then all of sudden, pop!! something snaps back... i go back to check the pedal just in case.. n voila! it's fixed.. gingerly start the car up.. smell like gas.. but goes away... never figured out what went wrong n what snapped back.. but jus got back on the road n headed for NY.. n the car was fine the whole time... but i must admit, i thought i was gonna lose another engine....

my ford probe has a great hook and loop design in it,,little metal hook coming out of the floor and a metal ring in the floormat and i have never had a problem with it,,everyone loves it
definetly going to set up someting like this in the 7

Mazdatrix Floormats are nice
A couple of the sevens I used to own did the same thing to me. I finally bought a set of the Mazdatrix floormats for my 87 TII and they came with 2 snap clips for each mat that "screw" into the lower carpet and they hold the mats (the mat has holes for them) REALLY good. Never had the floormats mess with the pedals again. They are a little expensive at $50, but they are very nice and match the color and have lasted me over 2 years so far and still look new.

How about using some of those little strips of velcro with the adhesive backing? That way there's no permanent damage, they'll come up easy for cleaning, and most importantly they'll stay in place.

I hate those clips since they ruin the actual carpeting. I am afraid i will rip it right out. As for the velcro, I dont think velcro sticks to carpet. But it works great in the trunk. I have a clear protective mat in hte back for it. It saved my rear carpet a few times. I am going to use zip tie or just screw it tight. My old 626 had the same design that you guys were talking about. It was great. Well I am going to give it a look when it is warmer. It's too damn cold to be outside

If you throttle gets stuck, and its not due to a carpet, or a binding cable, then you need to clean your throttle body and linkage.
This happened to me about two years ago. It turned out to be due to some sand and crud that had got in the throttle body linkage and jamed it up.
If it has happended to you, put some paper towels under the linkage (to keep the engine clean), and go to town with the WD-40 or your favorite cleaner/lube spray. Get that crud out of there before you kill your baby!
