Accelerator cable?

Last night i got in my car hit the gas after it was started all the sudden my gas pedal went to the floor... now has this happen to anyone? I looked and there is a cable that runs through it, and then i believe runs under the motor up to the little gold rod that is hooked to the intake manifold...Anyone can inlighten me on this that would be great

Yeah, that's the throttle cable. It consists of a multi-strand cable inside of a black, plastic housing. It attaches to the gas pedal linkage at one end and to the throttle body linkage at the other end. Could possibly have become detached at one end or the other. They do break, however, in which case you will need to replace the cable and housing as a single unit. Get a copy of the factory service manual from one of the links in the 2nd gen FAQ and educate yourself.

No, the cable does not run under the motor at all. That rod goes down to the Oil Metering Pump. The throttle cable connects on the opposite side of the throttle body close to the firewall.
I always found if I revved the engine up from under the hood by hand, the cable would jump off almost every time.

thanks guys...yea i havent had a chance to jack it up... but i will do so and see ...you think it would be hard to replease the throttle cable... it came off down below some where on that rod i just have to find it, and figure out how crucial it is to replace

I will tell you again, The rod going down in front of the engine has nothing to do with the throttle cable! The throttle cable goes nowhere near it, it's completely behind the entire throttle body, and you can access it with no problems without jacking the car up, or even thinking about going underneath the car. The rod goes only to the OMP.

You might wanna check on that... my car's never done that. If it flies off when revving by hand it might fly off at any point while driving...

no I think you're confused about what i'm talking about, when using teh gas pedal it's not possible for it to fall off, as the slack is never being taken off the cable..

anyway thompsonrx7 glad I could clear that up for ya.

confusing post..

was it the OMP rod jamming up the throttle and making the revs shoot sky high or was it the throttle cable came loose somehow and the throttle pedal was not affecting engine RPMs?
