All I have of my ac system is a compressor and the fan. The condenser was mangled, and the PO said the AC system didn't work. Of course .
So, the only part I have now is a compressor that I don't know works or not. What I do know is that the AC lines for the compressor and the firewall have been exposed for who knows how long. I would like to install an AC system, but I want to use r-134a or another refrigerant that is better for the environment. Some people I heard say on this forum that converting a stock system to r-134 is a terrible idea that will break it. So, is this true? Should I just find a complete used system, refresh the seals and convert it to r-134? Or should I source an entirely new system from the ground up? What are my options here? Not only is R-12 impossible to find, I want a refrigerant that isn't as nasty to the environment. Additionally, I have found very little information and parts in terms of AC system work online. It's summer in Cali, so I'm willing to fork over the cash, and I have time to spend.
I had my AC compressor rebuilt. Added 3 oz of ester oil into it. put the system into a vacuum to verify integrity and filled it with 1.5 cans of R152 Duster gas using a side tap can tap from amazon and some old R22 gauges I had laying around with a quick connect adapter on the low side. Seeing around 44f from the vents in Florida summer while cruising and compressor sounds great and quiet for about 2 years now.

Where would you recommend I search for a compressor rebuilder? My S5 verts compressor is seized and I had to cut the belt off as it was causing the belt to smoke.
Only reason I am asking for general shop finding tips is since I live in Canada and there are fewer options available to me.
I stumbled upon a shop locally that rebuilds them. If shops are scarce around your area, you may have better luck finding a new compressor online.
