AC Freon Question

I seached and one said r-12a, r134a, and freeze 12. Which one is better and not expensive as hell (like r-12).

Thank you for info in advance
Derek

R12 is not illegal, provided that the person doing the work on your AC is an ASE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN on refergerent recovery. My personal experience with R12 is it works very well but your looking at paying around 45.00 to 55.00 dollars per can. As for Freeze 12, it will run you about 8.00 to 10.00 per can and I have found it to be exceptionally colder. I have done both of the AC's on my 79' & 87 RX7's and serviced them both with Freeze 12 and .....DAM'N IZ IT COLD. What is kind of neat is that you will require about 10% less Freeze 12 than you would have on R12, Again the only problem with freeze 12 is that NOW you are required to be ASE CERTIFIED in order to purchase it. Perhaps find a friend who is certified that can buy it for you.

r-134 can be retrofitted for cheap but it wont work quite as well although you can do it at home very easily

Freeze 12 is a drop in R-12 replacement that can be had for cheap.

So freeze 12 is the stuff I should go with. How can I get Certified for freeze 12. Is it just take the ASE test

No, you just go and buy the stuff! I'm 98% sure it doesn't require any certifications because it's nontoxic.

This is a drop in replacement for R12, that costs signifigantly less then R12, and uses the same oils. Still requires a licence to purchase. Runs at comparable pressures to R12 and cools every bit as good. As always its reccommended to evacuate the system and add only freeze 12 and its oils (although addmittedly, I have mixed themwith little problem). http://www.freeze12.com/

J-rat, say it does require a licence to purchase.

Even that website hasn't made any mention of a license throughout the ordering process or anywhere on the product information.

Single can for sale (NO mention of a license requirement as they do for R-12):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=46094

A single car kit:

Read the ad, they even state in big old letters that no certificate is required.

If you do need a certificate to buy, and have about 30 minutes to burn, head to http://www.epatest.com - I got my certification there. Real easy, doesn't cost that much, and you're TOTALLY legal to buy R12, R22, you name it.

The newer R-12 drop-ins like Freeze-12 and Hotshot work really well, BTW. The hardest part is getting the system leak-free so it all STAYS in there.

Exactly. People need recharges for a reason...

Me for example, I used an aftermarket conical air filter attached to the AFM with what was a stable setup it seemed...but when the car was in motion, the filter's metal housing came into repeated contact with the A/C hard line running along the inner passenger fender area...one broken line = no A/C.
