AC Expansion valve installation HELP!!

I need help with the installation of an expansion valve in the AC system for my 90 FC. I think I know where it's located (in the evaporator box under the glove box) I've tried to get inside but have been unable to get it open. Could someone give me tips on replacing this? Maybe even some instruction from a repair manual would be great ( I could not find this task in the book I have). Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Let's start from the beginning: why do you think you need to replace the expansion valve? they seldom fail.

The car has been sitting for quite some time with the AC system open and it was suggested by the shop I was buying AC system parts from to replace the valve...

There is NO reason to replace the txv unless it is known to be defective/cogged. Never ask a barber if you need a haircut.

Is the system unpressurized? If so, you need to replace the dryer and vacuum test the system for leaks.

Fix any leaks.

Pull vacuum 29.8"+ for 30 min.

Recharge
with R12 (or freeze12) NOT R134a.
