ABS on GXL?
Is there a reason you want to put antilock brakes on it? If I had them on mine I sure as hell would have pulled it off already. But anyways, i guess its possible. I think there are sensors and another computer you have to ad though along with replumbing all of your brakes. Seems like alot of work. Not worth it in my opinion.
Sounds like a lot of work. I just removed the ABS from my 1989 turbo II and went to the trouble of putting the non-ABS lines in (see my post https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=133651 ). This says nothing of fitting the ABS reluctors, wheel speed sensors, and chassis sub-harness for ABS power ( 60 Amp! ), warning light, etc.
There's also a very large hole in the firewall to pass the main ABS harness through. It's behind the evaporator box so you've got some work cut out for you (no-pun intended!) to make the hole if it's not already there.
My ABS was working when I removed it and I can't say that I was very impressed with it. It didn't seem to have the finesse that my Wife's 1998 GTi VR6 (Teves 020) has. Of course hers is 11 years newer, but still the mazda (bosch) system felt 'clunky' ( I know, real high-tech terminology here
)

oh ok; it was just something I was toying with. Thanks for your help!! I guess I'll just have to get used to it. I loved the ABS when autocrossing my Probe GT, but since I have moved on to a real car, I have to re-learn such things.
ABS
Well tonight I lost all my breaking lights. So I checked the fuse and had found it was blown, then when I looked at the plate covering the fuses I see a spot makred for ABS anyway to tell if i have it or not no fuse is in it. just wondering not that i needed car stops on a dime. unlike the old saturn
Slinges,
You ought to find & drive a local 7 that has functional ABS in it and give it a try to see if it's really worth the complexity of the swap.
There's a slim chance some of the ABS infrastructure is in your car as it was an option for the GXL in later years but not in 1989. Start by lifting the hood and checking over the high current fuses near the battery. There should be a 60A spot for ABS, but more importantly there should be a thick (12ga) black/blue wire heading off into the harness to supply power for the ABS pump.
You should also lift the ECU cover in the passenger footwell and look for a 13-pin connector fully populated and a 4-pin connector that has that black/blue wire in it. If those are not present then I'd probably consider letting this one go.
