? about suspension

Hey guys, im looking to upgrade my suspension as i stated in a recent thread but my question here is how can i tell if i need to replace my springs as well as my shocks? i've found great prices on springs, but struts are ridiculous!! so how do i know if i can just put new springs on my stock shocks and be done with it? (for now)

Springs: measure your ride height from the hub to the top edge of fender. Are some sides sagging more than others? Regardless, always a good idea to replace 20+ year old springs but more importantly would be the struts as springs will just sag.

Struts: Do you see your struts leaking oil? Does the ride feel bouncy? Do you hear loud banging noises when going over bumps? Again, replace 20+ year old struts whenever you can. Also, make sure you replace the strut mounts (if not included), those usually will be bad by now.

Er, you can get a full set of brand new Tokico HP shocks/struts with a lifetime warranty for about $300 if you shop around.

Is your car riding like a monster truck?
Stock springs are fine but that looks ridiculous, replace them (w/ lowering springs)

Is your car at a respectable ride height?
Stock springs are old, worn out and sagging, replace them

Are you still in highschool? These are sports cars not show cars. Lowering springs will cause the car to handle worse then it already does on 20+ year old suspension parts.

Anything is an upgrade over stock springs (except cut springs) assuming you don't have blown struts.

I suppose you would have him buy some factory replacements for an arm and a leg, because clearly that represents the pinnacle of suspension performance....

Cutting the springs would be a better choice then buying new lowering springs. I'm sure if the OP used the search function he would find a few "suspension upgrade time" type of threads.
