I'm about to buy an 87 sport model in pretty much drivable condition. It may or may not run, but seems possible with a couple hundred dollars to replace some parts and bring it back to life. I can at least use it for parts or swap an engine in it later.

Only real problem is it does not have a title. The current owner bought it with no title for parts and I'm about to do the same. How can i go about getting a title for it?

Check the DMV and see if they can get you one. If they can, then i don't think it's going to be a road worthy car (unless it's a track car).

You sure this car isn't stolen??? You could probably track down the "original" owner and ask them to hand it over. ; )

I'm in the same boat, the guy I bought mine from moved to japan! So what I'm doing is waiting for him to contact the Florida DMV, mail a request form to Florida from japan, then to me, yada, yada, yada. BUT you can go to http://www.getnewtitle.com/ and pay $350 fora new title. I just don't want to shell out the dough... so I am waiting.... and driving.... a VERY illegal car!

Go to the DMV website or go there directly. People on here may tell you what you "might" need to do, but the DMV staff will tell you exactly what you need to do to get the car and you'll avoid a lot of bs.

car is here:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=638367

There is a post toward the bottom with a copy of the Carfax report that another member got for me and a link to another website where you can get a title for $325.00

I'd be glad to help with the car should you want to get it running, I just don't have the resources to do so myself.

yea contact the DMV.....it might take you a month but it wont cost you nearly as much.....
what i had to do was send a certified letter to the previous address the DMV had listed and wait for it to get returned to me showing that the person didnt live there and then they took that letter along with a vin etching frmo the car and sent me a new title in a week
like i said whole process took like 6 weeks i think but total cost was only the stamp to send the letter and 12 bucks for the replacement title.....
well worth it instead of forking out 350 for some illegal title that will bite you in the *** later on downt he line

just contact your dmv they will tell you what to do
