TX AAS or DTTS? 89' GTU

Okay guys I searched a little but need some help. A friend of mine bought her self a really clean 1989' GTU and I am trying to locate some parts for it. She says it is a 89' GTU but it has the vented hood from a Turbo II and what appears to be Turbo II 16" wheels.

It has a button for sport mode on the center console which I assume is the active suspension right? But then the spec thread shows only the GXL as having the AAS for 1989. She needs a new tranny, it is whining like crazy. Are all of the 5 speed tranny's the same? I am also looking at a clean GXL for my son so I figure I might as well start learning.

Thanks.

I believe that S4 and S5 tranny's are compatible. The only difference is turbo vs. nonturbo models. I'm not 100% sure, so someone please chime in here.

Transmissions are compatible... Use the crossmember mount that matches the transmission. (S4 or S5)

Correct that AAS is not a GTU option. Confirm that the car does not have AAS by looking at the shock towers. AAS has motors on the top of the shocks.

S5 GTU is the base model. Check the front brake calipers for single or four pistons.

There's lots of ways to confirm what model car you have. Unfortunately, after years on the road under God knows whose hands, parts have been swapped for one reason or another...

Going by just your title, all FCs have the DTSS bushings. Of course a common mod is to remove them and install regular old non dynamic bushings.

Actually, they have DTSS bushings, not DTTS. It stands for "Dynamic Tracking Suspension System."

Crossmember AND Y-bracket [it goes between the trans and crossmember]

So if it has the rubber covers with the wires coming out on the front shock towers then it is definitely not a GTU? It also has the Sport button on the center console.

Correct. It is a genuine GXL. Nobody would transfer all that to another car. It involves a computer in the rear area, the switches in the center console, the motors on the shocks, the adjustable shocks themselves, and a sensor attached to the underside of the master brake cylinder.

Gotcha, well I guess she was misinformed by the seller but a GXL is not bad. So even a turbo II 5 speed will fit in it?

Yes, with a turbo s5peed, you will need a turbo flywheel/clutch, and slave cyclinder. and then a turbo drive shaft with holes redrilling in the rear flange to accept the bolts. and the weight will go up slightly and you really won't need the extra beefy ness. unless it/s her first 5 speed. i destory'd my first n/a 5 speed. but then again, i'm sure i'll distroy the next one when ever i drive an n/a 5 speed again.

Thanks. I think it's better if she gets a NA tranny.
