Theres no way he spent 3 grand. Don Marvel quoted me 3 grand to do a conversion on mine and that was with and aftermarket turbo and custom manifold. 1300 seems the be the amount I remember.

How much you can turbo your N/A depends on ALOT of variables, such as how much work you can do yourself and mainly how much you can get your parts for.
So far, just for a comparison, the run down of the costs for my Turbo N/A project is this. (In $Australian)

Turbo + custom manifold = $80 (manifold was free.. )
3L Supra Intercooler + stainless steel piping = $150
Full gasket set = $160
still deciding what i'm doing for fuel but either..
Microtech LTX8 = ~$1000
or Haltech E6k, pending on how much money i have
2x550cc, 2x1000cc injectors
probably a surge tank and a bosch motorsport 044 fuel pump
and 2 Engine mounts 'cause they fricken fall appart in my hands after I took the sump off!

now i'm doing all the work myself, except for the welding of the sump for oil return and the exhaust so labour is irelevant for me really.

Edit: Oh yeah, Aaron Cake also his own forum specificly for turbocharged N/A's Here

This is an approximate cost. You must remember that here in Canada, parts are more difficult to find and a lot more expensive. And ordering from the States can easily double the cost of an item due to exhange and border fees. So it's easy for a $100 US fuel pump to turn into a $200 Can fuel pump.

All prices in Canadian funds:

S4 turbo + manifold w/ 10K mileage = $500
TII Intercooler = $30
4 TII Injectors = $300 (cleaned and balanced)
FD fuel pump = $100
Turbo adapter (had a shop weld it, made of RB exhaust flanges) = $130
Apex'I S-AFC = $500
Apex'I BOV = $160
Boost guage, gauge pod = $150
10 ft 2" stainless pipe = $80
Assorted radiator hose (intercooler pipe connections) = $75 (lots of special order)
Assorted ABS pipe (TID) = $25
Fuel injection hose, heater hose, etc. = $25
Welding rods, metal = $40
Oil pan, intake, turbo gaskets = $70
Assorted pipe fittings = $20

I believe that represents the minimal conversion that I could have done. I added extras on top of that (stainless oil cooler lines, oil cooler repair, fuel fitler, etc. etc.) so I spent probably $500-$700 more.

If you woud like to discuss this, a better place is my turbo NA forum (linked below in my signature).

$500-$700 American MORE (as in, add that to the total cost of all the things on that list).

j200pruf: Normally I just guess at the price, and $5000 is the number i use to dissuade newbies.

LOL, Aaron that is funny, although I feel like a dumbass now I am still thinking about turboing my 7, after I build up my hybrid motor, but I feel a lot better about doing it now that I know its way cheaper than you first told me.
