91' apex seals

For months and months now there has been a 91' NA for sale near my place. The owner even put it up on a local website and still nothing. He's asking for $1000.
I've seen the body, and it's mint, even has the anniversary body kit. Something like 170km's. It says j-spec engine, not completely sure what that is, but the main problem is it needs new apex seals. Now with no seals, there's no compression I gather. So is it worth it to low ball this guy and then do a rebuild or swap etc...

let me know.

1K isn't too bad. If it's mint inside and out that's not bad. I did spend a little extra on my motor when I rebuilt it and it cost me around 2300. That's my time. I did get a quote from a mechanic for about 4K.

its probably fucked aye. if the apexes are gone then the housings probably are to. it could be very costly if you choose to rebuild it

Wth are you talking about?

www.rotaryresurrection.com

Rebuilds starting at $1000.

You could technically get a near mint FC with a new rebuild for about 2k. That is an amazing deal.

And that is almost the worst case scenario.

theres no such thing as J-spec NA. all J-specs are turboed.

Worst case scenario is that it would need housings(pricey) and rotors. plus it could need other things. It could total over $2k just in parts. Thats in american dollars.

That price assumes all the housings are still useable... if the engine blows, you're going to probably lose at least one rotor housing. If you rebuild before it blows, you're probably okay...

Yeah, something smells fishy, as all j-specs are turbo.

I'll definitely have to inquire about that j-spec non-turbo'ed engine then.

A dead motor is a dead motor, no matter NA or turbo. Either way you look at it all you are paying for is a rolling chassis. For a really good body, I'd pay no more than $600 and thats for a California car.

Assuming its 1000 CAN, then thats a good deal even if the engine is toast. You can find a decent used engine and rebuild it yourself for less than 2 grand (USD) and have a nice working car.
