90 vert vs 2002 ford focus :[
I see your point, as I DO want to go fast in a straight line, but not JUST in a straight line. I completely LOVE the way my car handles and corners, but what good is it to be able to fly through the twisties just to get dusted as soon as you come out of the curve? Or since everyone else will get to the curve first, I'm not going to be cornering any quicker, I'm going to be overheating my breaks trying not to run up their *** in the corners, then they're going to accelerate out of the curve and leave me sitting.
Theres got to be a happy medium somewhere. I don't want a drag car, I'm not trying to set any records, or try to pull the front end up, but I do want somethign that when I hit an on ramp, a wickedly curved one by the way, I dont have to worry about getting run over by a zts (zx3s are WAY faster. the zts is the 4 door sedan with automatic) I do have what I want as far as cornering, BUT, I need more straight line acceleration, plain and simple.

its not about a swollen head.. I mean everyone I know makes fun of how slow my gf's focus is. Getting dusted by a previa wouldnt bother me. lets forget racing, and look at real world , every day applications....you're on the expressway, and you want the other lane, maybe I'm twisted, but in such a case , I just don't think that in a sports car that you should have to HOPE the guy in the cavalier station wagon LETS you over, drop the throttle and dust him. Thats the way it SHOULD be right
Sounds like you're a good candidate for (a) a TII swap (b) a V8 swap (blasphemy!) or (c) nitrous. Or you can sell your vert and buy something "faster". Like I said, a stock vert is not a straight line performer. If thats what you're looking for, you should follow one of the above suggestions.
Hey, just cuz you guys have no clue how to mod an N/A doesnt mean you can just go around ragging on the 'verts
And if you want streight line power, just get a V8 and be done with it :P

Dude, you tear out all the spare support systems, and you get aluminum parts, smacking an LS1 in there, you'll REDUCE the total weight by about 10lbs. If thats what you're trying to get at.
We got a few V8 RX-7s around here, and sorry, the change in cornering is so negligable it's not worth mention.

Anyway, back to the point of the thread. If your AUX ports and VDI are not functioning properly, your car is going to be PAINFULLY slow.
Fix/make sure those work before you just up and sell the car.
One of my RX-7s is a '90 'vert and it's crazy fast, only problem is it's a testbed for a lot of stuff :P

As I said this was all information i'd heard/read, here's one of the small number of threads I read that mentioned it.

and short of using a dyno, whats a good way to test the car for power? for instance, is it hard to spin the tires on a vert since they are so heavy? I tried to make a tight u-turn and thought I'd be goofy and slide the back end around, well , it didnt :P
Wow, if you cant break the back end free theres either something horrably wrong, or you've got some mega-awesome-ultra-grip tires on there. :P
I wasnt saying YOU were ragging on the 'verts, I was talking about the other stuff in this thread :P
The way I tested the AUX/VDI on my 'Vert (when I first got it and didnt know that much about RX-7s) was to take the vac line off each and blow into it and see if the actuator moved.

Why would you cut out all the "spare" support systems, their there for a reason. Just do away with the 6port all together and do a TII drivetrain swap. I have a slightly modded s4 13bt in my vert and it's the difference between night and day. I'm lucky I have the only TII convertible in my small town of 10+verts.
I put a RB Dual header and Dual exhaust all the way back. It really made a huge difference in my car. The Focus and the Altima (witch has 245 HP, or something like that) only slightly pulled away from me at the lights. If I could have rapped it out in third I may have passed them. Just put a decent exhaust on there (advice I didn't think was so great until I saw the results). Just make sure.....and seems nobody else does this form the for sale section........put the old exhaust in a big plastic container and keep it stored somewhere for the smog test. I broke mine down and put all the little pieces in the box and hung the "Y" pipe from the ceiling on the garage.
turbo would be nice, but its way out of my budget to do that swap. in response to the 245 horses for the focus and altima (unless I read that wrong) for all I know the zx3 focus might have 245 but I know the zts focus like my gf's only has 130 HP
on to the update. I put the gutted cats and Y pipe back on my car, no mufflers yet, not sure what I'm putting on there yet. But anyway, I tried my little U turn deal again, and smoked the hell out of my drive wheel. It pulls a LOT harder now. So now the debate is, what do do next, :\ and how far to go with it, hehe

i dont know what everyones problem with the vert is im very happy with my vert and its an automatic. its very slow at the start but once it hits about 2500 rpms it pulls like none other. all i have is banzai racing streetported and rebuilt motor, removed emissions, poly motor and tranny mounts, hks intake, clogged stock cat, and i think thats about it. on the highway i will be right behind my buddy's modded GTP at 120 mph. im happy why arent you. all the money i have spent is about 6 grand including the price of the car.

...Dont fool them.truth is though, now I'm torn, when I originally decided to go v8 I thought my engine was toast. now that its not, damn, who knows what do to
the turbo kit is 1500, then I still have to get a buttload of parts to complete that
I didnt know you could get an lt1 for 1500 :\ hmmm, LOL
wish I had a decent place to do a swap :P
