90 vert...front light wont go down

My front light will not go down. I can remove the fuse for the retractor and manually drop them. But, when i put the fuse back...they go back up..

Any suuggestions on how to fix it? Relays? switch? anyone have any testing advice?

Thanks!!!

Question Popup

Heyo,

I haven't actually had this problem myself. I think your best step forward is to try and find someone with the electrical wiring diagrams for your car. They are pretty similar 89-91. When I get my factory manual, I'll send em' to you.

Logically, there must be an issue with the motor that pops the headlight up. So either its a fuse, a wire (connector) or a bad motor.

That's all I can say,

-F.

I had the same problem. It must have been a bad connection or oxidation because the problem went away as I drove the car regularly. If I don't drive the car for a week the problem reoccurs. You can check the relay.

just a dumb suggestion

i saw another post the other day about this same problem.

have you checked the up/down switch on the left side between the rear defrost and the main light switch?

from what i heard the other day it sounds like a common oversight.

hope your problem could be solved this easy.

Okay...the problem was not fixed. I had bought a light switch..thinking that, that was it. It was not. The headlights will NOT go down.

I have the factory diagram...but, I had checked it all.

I need to know if the ground is a possible problem. I had checked it the first time...it was grounded...

Damn...can't f__ken figure it out....I am getting really fustrated.

I might just buy that EastBear light kit...buy, I do NOT want to spend that much....****!!!!!!

You can actually adjust the position of the motor from above. this is how my friend and I fixed his problem. A ratchet and some time just messin around turning it on and off until we put it in th right position. This shouldn't harm any thing because the motor is all a circular motion. I dont know if this is the fix for you but it worked for us.

Iwant7....explain more...I do not quite understand.

Anyway....I had bought another headlight switch.. It was bad also..

I had jumped a + signal thru the down position wire....it went down.

I had tested ALL wires...took everything apart....and the ****** second switch..i had bought for $60 was bad. That guy better give me another one.

Okay.....

I had replaced the fried harness that runs from the switch to another harness under the dash. I had just recvd another switch and had attached it.

I plug it all in. Now, my headlight will not turn off, even when the switch is in the down/off position????. And still, the headlights will not go down. I dont know what else to do. I had tried almost everything. I am about to bring it in to a shop.....damn!!!!

Okay, I had just discovered that the headlight switches are car specific. I had tested a few of the light switches. I take it I must get a '90 vert w/ airbag light switch. I had confirmed this by the wire diagram for with or w/o airbag. Damn, I believe not I have a non-airbag light switch....

Anyone wanna trade or have one for sale????

Scratch that last idea. I was looking over the diagram again. I was curious to see if the CPU (factory alarm) had anything to do with my retractor prob. I remember them working when the alarm went off.

I had pull out he box and inspected the guts. I did not see any burn or smell anything. I reassembled it, plugged it in w/o the alarm harness. THE RETACTOR AND THE HEADLIGHTS are not WORKING PROPERLY!!!!

I liked the idea of the stock alarm. So, I went back to the book. I had gone over the schmatic for the CPU. I found the wire that controls the retractor when the alarm goes off..... I removed it by unlocking fromthe harness corretor shell. Then taped it, hid it.

I had tested the alarm...works perfect w/o the headlights going off. Oh..well no lights, as long as the alarm works.

Hey did I mention that the by Headlights/Retractor work now!!!!
