I went into my tranny to find a bad bearing that was causing a really painful whine. Made driving unpleasant and talking difficult.

After pulling the whole thing apart, I can't find an obvious culprit so i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to look for bad bearings.

The whine goes away in 4th gear so I'm wondering which bearings aren't being used then. The obvious one is the needle bearing on the main drive gear. And, of note, when I put that bearing on the main shaft and then the main drive gear over that, the main drive gear can wobble a bit. Is this normal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first rebuild.
