88 is an s4. S4 GTU came with an LSD. You have an S5 GTUs which does not.

'90 S5 GTUs does have an LSD, GTU does not. Read the FAQ, there's a big difference between GTU and GTUs.

S4 GTU = Clutch type LSD
S5 GTUs = Vicious diff. Won't lock up like the S4 clutch type.

Love my 88 GTU, locks up really nice. :]

Now remember... most people think that they have a LSD if they can break both rear/drive wheels loose. This is not the case. Most FC's are/were able to break both rear wheels loose if they are in decent condition. Both wheels leaving burn out marks does not indicate a LSD. Hell I can leave both wheels having burn out marks on a FWD sentra.

So:

Nope... it didn't come from the factory with one.

Nope...

Number 1: There is no such thing as a 91 GXL. There was only the Coupe with A and B option packages.
Number 2: If it was from the factory it would be a viscous LSD... which the factory didn't make in '91 in 7 inch form... only an 8in (which only fits the Turbo diff assembly).

LOL, mis-information rules!

The S5 GTU is a base model trim package. Equivalent to the "SE" models S4..

The GTUs and the Turbo should have LSD in the S5 model years. Other then that.. 1 Wheel wonder...

One thing everyone needs to understand is that these cars are like 19+ years old, lots of parts can be swapped around..

88 GTU = non turbo sports model with LSD and Sport suspension and sport brakes
89-90 GTU = base strippy model with simple single piston brake, and standard soft suspension and no LSD (or really anything else).
89- 90 GTUs (note the small "S"... don't confuse that with the strippy base model 89-90 GTU) = non turbo sports model with LSD and Sport suspension and sport brakes.

and a few other non turbo notes:
86-88 GXL = had a LSD
89-90 GXL = didn't have a LSD
91 GXL = smoking crack- or taking 'srooms as there was never a 91 GXL
91 GTU = smoking crack- or taking 'srooms as there was never a 91 GTU

Most 1989 and 1990 GTU models had the optional sunroof. Only about 10% of the production did not. Very very few dealers ordered the car without the sunroof.

And what makes you think you have a LSD?

FYI: (since I know most of you obvously have not looked at the Optional and Standard Features sticky thread):

Speedometers are easily swapped although it would be weird to do it. When I did the turbo swap I kept the GTU speedometer to keep the miles accurate.
