90 gtu motor issue

90 gtu motor issue - I NEED HELP - Thanks

I just got a 1990 gtu rx7 that i would like to get running in tip top shape. Well i have a problem. (1)When i do get it to start which it take a long time to do,(2)it revs really high for a while(3)and when it settles it cuts off.(4)And when it does run it blows out some smoke.


any ideas?

(1) how are you starting it, what are you calling "a long time to do"

(2) did you read the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this section??? It covers rev'ing starts ups.

(3) Also sounds like your TPS is out of adjustment

(4) what color smoke? does it go away ever??

really?
someone told me maybe the apex seals
but what is a tps
the color of the smoke is grey
i was hoping there was a way to get it to start faster

Apex seals gone, and the engine only runs on one rotor. It is quite noticeble. Don't trust anything the other person told you.

Oil seals now; they could be leaking. How much oil is the engine running through???

actually i dont know how much oil, i will have to see in a few days
and the tps is the reason for the high revs... then cutting off?

My RX-7 rev's up to 3000 RPM everytime I start it when cold
Yep, part of the accellerated warm up process. Start the car with the clutch pressed in, and the car in gear if you don't want it to do that.
