89 N/A Rebuild.....PROBLEMS

I have done about two nights of searching and I cant find a post that goes over why this might be happening. I rebuilt my motor about 300 miles ago and I am having problems. I can start it in the mornings and in the evenings when I get off of work sorta fine in the fact that it has a hard start. I can't however start my car right after I have stopped it and say gone into the store to get milk. It sill crank over and it just teases me but wont start. I can compression start it and it jumps right over to get it going.

It also requires me to keep it at a high idle to keep the engine going. Can someone at least shoot me some helpful links to get me threw this. Or speak to me on what might of happened?

I have an 1989 NA slight mild port.

Rebuilds are hard to start till they are fully broken in, that is around 1000 miles.

If the engine was built with used housings it can take some time to build up compression.

Also it sounds as though you may have a vacuum leak.

oh well i dont know if it is compression start or if it is a pressure start but basically you go down a hill and pop it into 2nd and release the clutch to make the engine role over with the key on and your car starts right up.

That sounds like a push start.

same thing as a push start I guess however when you are only one person and you only park on a hill so that you dont need a push to get your car to get rolling then i guess you can eliminate the push out of the push start ha ha
