Question 89 gtu vs 88 gxl

can i take parts from a 89 gtu motor and put them into my 88 gxl motor during rebuild?

are they compatable?

mainly i want to take the best of both motors and make one good one, the lighter rotors mainly, as well i think the s5 rotors have a slighly higher compression, correct?
now do the s5 motors have the air deflectors things in the exhaust ports, or are thoes only gone in the turbo motors.
