89 Body 87 Engine

Will my 87 engine, transmission and wiring fit into my 89 NA without having to mess around with the computer and wiring? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

no, you will have to do some modifications to the wireing as for the ecu, I'm not sure if there will be probs with that. I am doing the opposite and putting an engine from a 90 in my 86 and I will have to modify the harness. The trans won't be a problem. If you have the old engine from the 89, it would probably be easier to swap the 89 manifolds etc on to the 87 block.

And the front cover and Oil Metering Pump. 87 - mechanical, 89 - electronic. The 87 OMP will obviously work in the 89, but the ECU won't be able to see that it's running and will be stuck in "limp-home" mode all the time. Oh, and the 87-89 harnesses are simply not compatible without a lot of work.

I'm in planning stages on putting an S5 motor in an S4 - with all-S4 harnesses, sensors, etc. The only reason I'd do an generation swap is because I already have the motor and the car and it's a little cheaper than blowing cash on a completely new motor. And S5's have (slightly) better internals.

Best of luck, you might actually find some help from the FAQs and http://rotaryresurrection.com , look at the turbo swap info even if it's not a turbo, some of the information is helpful.

I have a 88 block.

This is what I have going on...

S4 88 block.
S4 lower intake manifold
S4 Air Control Valve & Vacuum Rack
EGR Valve blocked off.
S5 ECU
S5 VDI manifold, Dynamic chamber, throttle body, airflow meter etc.

All emissions still on the car (took some reading of the FSM to get it all hooked up right with the S4 vac rack.

The 6 ports are still going through the S5 ECU controlled solenoid straight from the air-pump. Same with the VDI.

Basicly, everything on the car is S5, except the shortblock, LIM & ACV.
The OMP has to be S5 or the ECU will go into "limp mode" (wont see a OMP at all)

This is on a 89 GTU

If you have any questions hooking most of that **** up, give me a PM. The previous owner of the car hooked ALL the **** up wrong... so I had to basicly do everything over.
