Question 89 13b n/a with auto transmission

Does anybody know, does a pinion bearing need to be installed for the auto transmission to connect. I took my engine out with the trans still in the car and now that I'm about to put the engine back in I find a pinion bearing in my engine kit. I don't ever remember taking one out nor did I find one in the shaft. Does anybody know? Thanks for your time.

Pilot bearing? No, the automatic does not have one, the torque converter simply bolts to the flex plate.
