rubber plug or just a piece of color matched tape, can probably stop by a sign shop for a scrap piece or the gaudy/ethnic aisle of a auto parts store for a small roll

Buy a 1000 dollar welder and go to town!
..no seriously I would use Fiberglass and sheet the bottom of the hole(from the inside of the hatch. That would give you something to work with.
Then put some resin in and sheet the top about an inch each way.
After that sand and bondo, sand and paint.

Welder probably won't help. The hole is through the glass isn't it?

I would try to find a proper sized rubber plug.

I always thought the wiper was a pretty good plug, after all it's weight over the rear wheels.

Found a rubber plug to put in the hole I had in one of my TII's at the local hardware store in one of their little slide out bin/boxes near all the bolts and what not.

I put a couple pieces of black electrical tape over mine a couple of years ago, on the outside and inside, so the tape is sticking to itself. I am "planning" to put a rubber plug of some sort in it, but it has been working fine all along.

i used black silicon i put tape on the inside filled the hole made sure it was packed and let it dry and then removed the tape on the inside and took a razor blade and cut the silicon flat to the window on the outside

with that plastic plug i'de put some crazy glue or something to keep it in there, you dont want someone popping it off on you and putting stuff inside your car. or if you dont notice it's off and it's raining one day or something

Just wondering, did the rear wiper work anyways? Like the sunroof, it's rare'er to see a working rear wiper than one with none at all. You'd get 2nd gen points for having a rear wiper that actually works. I'm proud of the wiper on my AE beacuse it works like the day it left the factory.

Ah, you almost got me. It didn't when I bought it. Had to do the common wiper switch fix to make it work. But yes, everything on that AE works now.

Renton, now banned, used a generic black snapping plug he found at Home Depot and it sealed perfect and was hardly noticeable.

i actually find ( found ) that the wiper is great when your driving the car in the rain, clears that window off real good.

please dont say you want to take it out for weight reduction

Maybe its not an issue here in Southern California, but I've yet to find that I need that rear wiper. The ONLY time I ever use it is when its early in the morning and theres dew all over my car and I can't see out the back, but I could always use a towel to quickly wipe it off the entire window instead.

When its raining, I can still see out of the back window, no wiper or Rain-X needed.

I like it for snow. Less than a couple inches and the wipers can handle it. No need to brush.

Obviously not a problem for you...

I aint saying you are blind without it, but in certain lighting conditions like when it first gets dark out and there is a glare from the water it comes in handy, or if your back window is a little dirty, certain times the water just dont bead off that great and it makes seeing easier
