Question 89` GTU mint

Ok guys, I want your oponion, I work at a videogame/Lan store while im taking a semester off from school, and one day this hillbilly over heard me talking to this guy about mazdas. So the next day he comes in and is like "I overheard you talking bout mazdas, we have one at our auction place were trying to get rid of, the engine is blown though."
So i go down there and check it out its a mint GTU 89 with everything Spoiler/Tailights/Sticker/.... the only thing is some of the interior needs some help i.e. driver seat adn middle console, but other than that and the engine its amazing. Now the Clencher, he will give it to me for 450.00 dollas...... Your thoughts?

Oh yeah amazing gtu wheelz too!

For $450 I'd buy it.

Think about it this way... $450 for a car in great shape... $3000 to fix the nit picky **** and install a turbo drivetrain.

So for $3500 invested you've got yourself a clean turbo FC. Given the cost of buying a remanufactured n/a engine why not go to a turbo drivetrain?

Yeah I have thought about that, and other options, one being swapping tail-lights and then fixing up or parting ?

Why would you want to swap the tail lights on an '89?

If the car is in great shape, why part it out. You could buy it, then make some money by reselling it without getting you hands dirty. Plenty of guys looking for a "mint" 7.

Naturally, if condition is "mint" as described, I would think 850/1000 would be in the range. But if you start changing items, tail lights etc, who knows.

yea, good call on buying it. But when you say "swap the tail lights" do you mean put your 86' tail lights on the 89??? Cuz, personally the 89' tails are wayyyy better looking than the 86'.

I think you are mistaken. The GTU has an N/a drivetrain.

You're talking about the '89 GTUs. In '89 the GTU was the base model.

...except the GTUs didn't come with a turbo drivetrain, even if it did come with a LSD. The drivetrain in the GTUs is identical to other n/a drivetrains except for a different ratio on the final drive and fifth gear.... and the LSD.
