From the research I've done, a lot more components of the car are tied in to the S5 ECU, S4 has a lot more mechanical stuff, like the OMP for example. It's not going to work.

well i wouldn't say it is impossible, but the AFM is completely different, though someone who was determined could rewire an S5 to work on an S4 ECU, perhaps even use the S4 AFM with a few wiring changes there.
but then there's a matter of premixing.
but the S5 vert ecu isn't all that rare, not like the good ole N370 which has quickly turned gold plated.
i probably have one in the shop, but i don't give my parts away for next to nothing anymore, so there's that.

i just got a n351 for $40 ill be getting it within a few days ill post back if my problem is fixed. it all seems like its leading to the ecu and well it sat in water while the P/O showed me it ran and it idled for like 30 minutes. and i couldnt even pull any codes from it since the cel was on when it was running

you can pull codes while the CEL is illuminated, its kinda preferred since you know a code is stored at that time. when you turn the car off any stored codes are erased and the cycle starts over.
by "stored" i mean this is old technology and there is nothing really stored longer than 1 ignition key cycle.
