88 turboII that doesnt turn over
hey everybody im very new to this site and fourm thing so i hope i did this right. i already have a 88 10th aniver. rx7, however i have come across another turbo II 88 i went to see the guy and look at the car, first off the body is in almost show room condition with factory everything including the radio, the car only has 100000 miles on it, but the problem is that it wont turnover, it will crank and all the lights and acessories work but it just wont turn over. i was wondering if anyone knew what the problem might be. thank

could be anything from your description You need to find out what it is not getting (ex. fire, fuel etc...) Once you determine what it's not getting then write back to us and we will go from there. Real quick you might want to
a. see if the egi fuse is good
b. see if engine is flooded
c. do a compression test or at least see if one of the seals are bad

good idea, ill have to try that, i had to do that with the one i have now. i was thinking that it might be the coil packs but then a friend suggested that it might be the timing does that seem feasible

real quick thanks for the quick replies. if the starter was bad would the engine turn but not start*****
No. Make sure the fuses in the engine compartment are good and the ENGINE fuse is good inside the car. If they are good......I give you little chance of getting the car to start if you don't have/use a multimeter with fsm wiring diagrams. Your best chance in that case is to send it to someone who works on cars and have them find out why it does not run.

If it is flooded, then you need to clear out the extra fuel. To do this open the fuse box in the engine compartment. Remove the green "EGI" fuse. Crank it over a bit. Replace the fuse. Try starting it again.

Never rule out the AE funky alarm. To check that the alarm isn't putting the car in limp disconect the battery to reset. If that aint it I bet its flooded.

I think Iam expierencing a similar problem.
A month ago i replaced the whole engine harness and let it sit in my garage for a while. When I first started it, it sounded very weird and idled pretty rough... The motor vibrated for a bit. I drove it about a block and it died. It is now in my garage. Sometimes it starts, and sometimes it doesnt. What can be wrong? Vacumm lines?

Nurse I need 1300cc's NOW
ive gotten 7's to start with 2 year old gas in the tank and been sitting in the woods for years. it took a solid 20 minutes to get it to sound like it would kinda start , but i went from nothing to , slight cranking , to cranking, to sputtering and dying , to fired up and smoking like a chain smoker. just got to be patience, use the unflooding proceedure. a nicely charged battery is always a help. and test to see if you have spark,.. i used a screw driver laid it across some metal inside the engine bay let it sit there( not holding it) and tried to crank over to make sure i was getting spark. after a while i smelled gas. unflooded it . started getting better . i checked the air filter and found a mouse nest and most of the filter missing. pulled out that , cleaned out the intake for debri. cranked it a few more times and she fired up. just gotta play .. if it doesnt doesnt fire up then it might be the alarm , or the seals might be really bad. if you can bring someone wth you that has worked on the 7's for a while .. having 2 brains working on a problem is better than one .

same situation, what I've done
I'm in a similiar situation w/ my 87 se.
So far I deducted that I am not getting spark w/ the mass air flow sensor connected... u can tell by rpm reading or not. I have also dound that my injectors are not exactly functioning and so for that I had to take off the fuel rail.
Also, if it has sat for a while make sure that you hear the fuel pump when you move the key to the on position.... if old gas is in there it could have tarred and jammed the pump.

I tried that unflooding process last night for like 10min no luck. My problem is not starting the car, my problem is the rough idle.
What do I do to make it sound right?????? I dont think the seals or anything is bad because its only been sitting in my garage for about half a month and, I only have 76K original miles, plus I put 4K on it since the rebuild....
Thanks for the info
