88 SE, starts and then stalls...wtf.

ok, so just recently, my SE started acting up.

it Starts and goes to the 3k start up, but as soon as it revs up, it dies. and it wont stay running. im not sure what to make of it since im not near the car. my dad has been trying to fix it. he said that one of the vacc lines was broken, but didnt specify.

my guess is that it could be the fuel pump. could it be bad enough that it wont let the car run, but just good enough to keep the lines pressurized to start it?

or is there a specific vacc line that needs to be attached to allow the car to run?

the car does have some mods on it, if you need to know i can let you know.

could be a big vacuum leak, or the air flow meter is unplugged or has become loose in the intake duct.

big vaccum leak eh? sounds like thats more likely than not, the problem here.

are there any specific line that would cause this, say like a line that should be connected to a sensor, or just a nipple on the engine?

im sure this is WAY too vague to be solved w/o more info. sorry.

thanks
chris

i found out whats wrong. its one of those vaccum solenoids on the driverside of the engine. there's a cluster of them w/ only 2" vaccum lines coming off each solenoid, they curve down. if you look from the driverside of the car, they are on near the bottom corner of the manifold, towards the front of the bay. mounted behind the alternator.

one of the nipples broke on the black plastic solenoid thingy. any place where i can get a new one?

What you found needs fixin. but I seriously doubt that, that was the culprit. I'd look for a large hose of about one inch dia keeping it from keeping on running.

Hailers, long time no talkey, good to hear from you again.

this shows the picture of the suspected culprit. one of these solenoids has a broken vacc line. i havent gone out to verify which one is broken.

where/what on my car would use a 1" hose???? only thing i know of is the heater, but thats only 3/4" or 5/8". aww shucks, i dunno.

thanks

update

it is a broken vacc solenoid.

im not exactly sure what they are called or what they due. but the one thats broken, is the one that has the blue 2 wire connector on it. its the lower vaccum line thats broken away. i think the PN is AESA127 or something liek that.

anyone know where i can get a replacement, besides mazda?

thanks
chris
