88 SE, ecu has fried resistor
We love it when you mull, though, Hailers
Hey, Locketine- 3.9 ohms doesn't sound right for a resistor in a solenoid power circuit... 3.9 KILOohms, maybe? Not a big deal, just don't want you to buy the wrong one one & then wonder why it blew again. If it's part of a bridge circuit with a switching transistor or two, it just might be 3.9, but I wouldn't think so...Think about it, 3.9 ohms is a piece of copper wire about 20 feet long (depending on temp)...
I'd have to go with Hailer's "light brite" theory about why it blew in the first place, also...Makes perfect sense...Solenoids do short every now & then, but the ones made for cars should be built to take the vibration and not do that...
Man, if anybody's got a spare junk ECU, send it & I'll map the sum bitch out for us for electrical troubleshooting purposes. Not for figuring out how to make your car go faster, though, lol...

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/619/393.pdf Yep. 3.9 ohms.
The Internet is a terrible thing to waste. http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...threadid=33290

You always come up with the neatest ****, Hailers, lol...
It still seems to be the wrong size & type of resistor to be 3.9 ohms, but I've foolishly trusted you on other "revelations", so I'll have to now also, lol...
No one wants to send me a bum ECU from an '88, huh? I can't stand not having schematics for something, it drives me batshit

yeah, I got that figure from my electrical engineering book. thing is my dad picked up a 3.9kohm resistor for me on accident........ looks idential in proportions to the burnt one so I think I might just use it and assume mazda f'ed up on the labeling. or test one of the good resistors..... lol I can't beleive I didn't think of that before.

Usually the smaller the resistors are, the higher the value is. I can't tell how big it is from the picture, of course. The low resistance types (6 ohm, 10 ohm, etc) are usually huge, compared to the small 10Kohm, etc stuff on most circuit boards, but this is not always true. Those color bands get confusing sometimes, also.
Anyway, here's hoping you get her all fixed up again
I'm gonna have to get me an ECU to "play with" on e-bay, lol...
