88 S/4 w/5 speed....Whine in Fifth Gear

Tried a search and did not find much info....she shifts good, syncronizers good cause shifts smooth....but fifth gear has sort of a whine, not high pitched and not grindy...160,000 miles....but I ve seen trans go 300,000, but I also they are not treated equal....full of 80-90 wt with no leaks....
anybody got any ideas .....and any additive that might quite it down....(I know some of the experts gonna say .....naw.....band aid.....REBUILD.....)I can probable get another 100,000 out of it.....all ideas appreciated.....THANKS !

what rpm are you at when 5th whines. If I'm going 60 or lower mine will whine like its straining, but if i'm going 70+ its fine.

Hmm ... Its probably the internal bearings slowly starting to go out it happens.

cant give anything solid, but i agree if im at 60mph or below its strains like a mother, anything over 65 is straight. think about it though, how many moving parts are there in a tranny, and how fast are they moving, unless u have a new car, somethings gunna make noise in there, but if what you're talking about is loud enough to make u start shitting, then thats another story. just do a tranny flush and judge the condition by the fluid, plus a tranny flush aint a bad idea at any milage.
