New Project for the 4th Weekend

Car has been running great, because everyone is so interested I see...
It still has no insurance, so I havent really gone far or hit any
mentionable speeds, but I think its good to go. Im VERY PLEASED

I will be working on this the 4th weekend. I was going to wire it with the relay so
that both speeds come on at different temps. But then I thought, the stock fan
always ran.. SO, couldn't you just wire the low to run all the time and have the
High come on at like 200 or just have it on a switch for hot days or spirited driving.
Just a thought, Im not a big electrical guy. Currently in Mechanical Engineering
school...

Also got this in today and slapped it on.

Hot Start Issue..

Well, I haven't been driving the car much since its not registered, insured, or
inspected. I've been tooling around my suburbia neighborhood and thats it. So
tonight, I said **** it, I'm going out on some back secluded roads and get some
speed and rpms on the engine. So I do and it runs fine. I didn't boost much, but
when I did hit boost, the car pulled pretty nice. That said, I'm not worried about it
running badly, BUT since I haven't driven manual much in the past year I stalled out.
And what happens, it won't start... So I push start it and get her back home safe.

So, my question is: What are likely causes of this fresh rebuilds hot start issue? I
probably should do a compression check.. I just hope its not that my home rebuild
isn't up to spec. It is still unbroken in though so I'm unsure. I'm new to rebuilds and
what to expect.

Also, I pulled it out side one day to wash it, and two hours later when I went to
move it back it flooded. I didn't think much of it because the engine was so fresh at
that time it prob still had weird compression.

I had the same hot start problem, part of it was the engine just breaking in, but the majority was the fact that my timing was off by a whole lot...do you see your gas mileage hurting a bit too? (guess that may be hard to estimate, as you arent really driving it) But I was seeing under 10 mpg, but reset the timing**USING A TIMING LIGHT** and it fixed it all, hot starts, mpg, and improved the idle vastly. You could always throw a fuel cut switch on there too.

That makes me feel better. I have the timing just adjusted by feeling out the CAS. I
think I'm going to have it professionally timed soon.

Also, I was doing research and came across stuff about how the ECU has a different
ignition setting for hot starts which will actually cause it to flood easier, especially
with emissions removed. And it was suggested to put in a relay to reduce the
voltage, which would affect the fuel pump I guess. I didn't quite understand. Can
anyone clarify this.

I have interesting updates for my E-fan install, but I haven't taken pictures so I may
get around to that someday. I wired it into the stock fuse box. Pretty nifty and might
be helpful to anyone doing an E-fan.

Idle is about 900 and the temp is at the 1/4 as it should be on an S4.

For your rebuild, maybe it is flooded. Mine flooded the first time I tried it. Have you tried the de-flooding procedure. Pulling the plugs and EGI fuse and cranking it. Then even putting a little bit of thicker oil in the housing through the spark plug holes. Helped mine a few times..

Oh man, my build thread, Resurrected! Well for anyone that is curious the car is
running great. It was having a flooding issue there for a bit, but that has pretty
much resolved itself. I guess it was mostly due to the break in period.

I just recently upgraded to a Rtek 1.7 which made it run significantly better.
Probably because of the fuel mixture being better tunned for performance. I
havent driven it a whole lot on the Rtek. This is because my throw out bearing
was whinning so I replaced it, but in this process I seized up the new pilot bearing
on reinstall. So I had to drop and reinstall the trans a second time making sure to
be more careful about the pilot bearing. And that all took a while

Also most recently (three weeks ago) I picked up and installed a set of tanabe
springs. But, on the same weekend I was installing the springs I tried fixing my
sunroof and ended up making it worse and uninstallable So the car is decomissioned
on the fresh springs while I track down a working assembly. I've driven it roofless
on a few nice days. Not even enough for the springs to settle.

I'll have to post some update pics just for the hell of it. My next buy I’m thinking
will be some 17” BBS RS, maybe some Equips...

Bringing this thread back to life to try and find out where you got this intercooler set up! Did you just piece it together off eBay or buy a kit?

Hey I'm curious about your wastegate port. Did you have a template? Where did you get the cover that covers tje new opening. I have an 88 t2 and pretty much gonna use this build as a template for what I wanna do. Awesome build.
