88 n/a vacuum problem..searched
where can i get a vacuum diagram for my car? i have a cut hose behind the UIM and i don't know where it goes to/comes from...i can't find the diagram for the n/a, just turbo. i have a horrible idle problem and all the other options besides a vacuum problem (tps, etc...) have been ruled out, i'm thinkin this vacuum problem will fix it.
also, what's this black canister next to the AWS and where does the empty electrical connection go?

The black canister is the charcoal canister for the fuel system ventilation. I don't have a wiring diagram handy but there are links to the FSM in the FAQ sticky at the top of this section. I would say if it runs from the left side of the tb (from the thermowax i think) under the uim...it probably goes to the diaphram on the right side of the TB. There should be a check valve in the middle of that line so that's probably why it's cut. Not sure what the loose plug is for, could be for a diagnostic tool.

I don't even see a cut/open vacuum hose. The only open hose I can see is the windshield washer hose on the far left side of the picture.
Almost all RX series cars came with a diagram of the emissions hoses pasted to the bottom side of the hood

It's like this. On the aft end of your throttle body there is a water thermo device(yellow plastic device) that is vacuum operated. It has two nipples (if it's a manual car). One nipple goes to the double throttle diaphram to operate it The other nipple has a vacuum hose on it that goes to the area that you show in your last jpg (very dark by the way).
So a vacuum hose should be going from that area up to the water thermo valve I mentioned. I believe there are two metal nipples in the area your trying to show. If it's not an automatic car, then the other nipple is capped off. Make sense??/ If not, see the FUEL section of the free online FSM. HAYNES manual MIGHT show it better.
If that source of vacuum is capped off, it can not cause a vacuum leak.
A common mistake on vacuum lines is at the front of a n/a series four car. Three nipples one above the other. ONLY the bottom one has vacuum and it goes to the left of the engine to feed the vacuum rack. At least a part of the vacuum rack if memory serves. Theres another vacuum line off the dynamic chamber that feeds the rack from the left side of the dynamic chamber.

i know what youre talking about with the thermo device, but everything is connected, this hose im worried about comes off of a nipple on the back of the engine, and i have no idea where it goes, i haven't found any other places missing a vacuum connection, and since the hose has been cut it could go anywhere...this is so annoying!

If the car did not come with cruise there is supposed to be a rubber vacuum cap on that nipple...my guess is the previous owner had vacuum line already and was too lazy to go get a new cap to replace the old dry cracked one. You can get them from any parts store.
