88 gxl rebuild

this is my budget rebuild of my 88 rex, i got the car about 2 months ago, about 1 month ago i was on my way to school when it caught fire. i am unsure if it was the acv or pd, but im not going to use either of those in my rebuild so im not too concerned.

I'd toss everything inside there and find all JY stuff that you can rebuild. There could be some damage that you dont see on things that you think may be fine. Good luck!!

Hahaha, you're in the same boat i'm in! Although you're much father along....it's to the point now in Colorado that when i get off of work (at 4!) it's too dark to work...weekends and holidays only. Luckily thanksgiving is coming up so i can get the engine out of the car and spray the bay.

ill put it this way, i am sixteen, however i do have some experience with cars, mostly wiring, and i have spent way too many hours sitting at this computer reading anything i can that may help me.

by the way, my charcoal canister is completely toast so im not sure what i should do for ventilation, i was thinking a catch can hooked to a vacuum line through the stock firewall tubing

Overall nice job fixin the car back up. But you really should lose the speaker wire for those relays. Speaker wire isnt meant for that. Some fans draw ALOT of current and could easily fry that wire.... Fire #2

i have 14 ga wire running from cig. lighter to switch, then 22ga. wire running from switch to relay, then 14 ga. wire running from 80amp fuse to relay, relay to fan, so there isnt really that much current running through the thin wire

Update:

After many long hours troubleshooting and wiring, rewiring injectors etc. it ran on christmas eve. Today i got the strange problem figured out, i had hard wired the TPS wrong and it was thinking it was at idle when it was at WOT.

I still have one problem, EGT's, after running at 3k rpms for around 5min. or so i turned it off and looked at the exhaust, the manifold was glowing red hot as was the DP. I suspect it may just be the TPS misadjusted but im not sure if it could cause that hot of exhaust, also would the O2 sensor be damaged by this heat?

Hey man that just happened to me to this past week, like almost completely identical......mine was caused by a busted fuel line, i did the same thing as you, i painted the manifolds and the TB, also the ALT. i had to do the whole thing plus rewire my car in 3 days.........what about your oil injection lines, did they melt or what, if they did you're gunna have to premix.

Lol, I was reading through it and got to the "ran on Christmas Eve" part and was thinking... wtf?! Then I looked at the dates and it all made sense.

Eh, regardless, it is nice work, especially for a 16 (17 now I guess) year old.

Good luck with it you seem to be doing a good job, my car has been quite a project for me over the years and thankfully I havent had an engine fire, maybe I should look into replacing my pd or the banjo bolt method, but its driving great for the past 1500 miles I've put on it.
