antenna stops 4 inches short
its a sunny saturday morning here ..... hope where you are too
the antenna on the '89 vert goes up and down but won't retract completely .... sticks out about 4" and i can still hear the motor ( 2 clicks) trying to bring it down completely
easy fix ? or replacement ?

I'm pretty sure it's something mechanically screwed up inside the motor--mine does that and I have a brand new antenna mast from Mazda. Go to the mazdatrix website and look at their antenna mast writeup. Pull the motor, check the mast to see if it's broken. If it's not, you need to find another antenna motor.
Sometimes the end of the retractor 'reel' breaks off about 4 inces or so from the end. This broken piece then gets jammed in place and prevents the mast from retracting fully. Open the mechanism and clean it out os broken parts and old grease, relube it, and insert a new mast.
u know what, mechanical antennas are crap. i took mine off because it would only go like halfway up, had shitty reception, and popped the wing out. i would reccomend the rubber (shorter) antennas the have at autozone/pepboys for like $10. the only thing that sux is if u have a wing its a bitch to take off. well at least in my turbo2

See the blue (?) wire in your dash, touch it to your new cdplayer (decks) ant/amp line. It will complete the relay so the antenna goes up.
if its not blue, check, I'm pretty sure its blue with white line/stripe

Take the time, having to press on it gets tired, and it only gets worse in hot weather.

still not sure what the problem is though .. mast or motor or just adjustment. didn't have time to take it apart .... I guess i have to remove the plastic trunk liner to get at it
