88 GXL 2+2 Write off :(
My son just smashed my 88 GXL 2+2. It is to be written off, frame bent too much. I'm now trying to fight with my insurance people to get a fair price for it. Problem is... not that many 2+2's around to get a good price. It has 190 k total, I'm the 3rd owner. Second guy babied it, never in snow, always garage kept, original paint with a little rust left rear panel. It was an auto, leather interior, all options ordered etc... 35k on a factory rebuild, new Rad and all hoses, temp senders etc, complete new brakes, flash to pass lenses, new battery, get the idea.... it was real looked after. If anyone can show me valid prices of their purchase or any other info that would help me please send me a e-mail. I'm trying to find another one,but no luck so far...not in my area anyway

How sad
It's written off. Has it been classified "salvage" or "dismantle" only? In BC, if it is classified dismantle only ..... this means only a few (certified) shops can buy it from the insurance company.
However, Josepi made a good point. Part of the negotiations with the insurer should include your retaining the motor...
Sorry Rob, I wish I knew how much your car was worth. There has to be other '88's like yours out there.
C'mon guys ...... if you own one, what do you think it's worth?

I have a meeting with them on Monday...my guess is salvage only...with bent frame not much anyone can do. At least I should hope only salvage, I'll be p..ssed if someone else rebuilds it!I still might buy it back, hope to find another 7 to replace it and keep the motor for later, it only has 35k on it. plus the brakes and stuff are all new..

i find it gay that its your car and you'll have to buy it back from insurance. What else i find gay is that however long you've owned your car, you've been paying lets say 900 every six months (like me). then when something goes wrong insurance says **** you your money doesn't mean **** to us. So in essence if no one had to pay insurance and just saved what they would be paying from them. They could buy another rx-7 in about a year and a half. Not to mention insurance is a mandatory thing. Such a rip off.
