I have owned two 88 rx7s a gxl 2x2 and a gxl-se. I sold both of them one when the 2nd tranny died and the gxl-se when I blew a rotor. I know blasphamy. but i was in college and no money for toys. I am looking at buying another 88 verrte but I have a few questions as I haven't owned one before. I was wondering if the body kits will fit a convertible with out major retrofitting. I assume that they will, however I could see the rear bumper being different and not fitting. Also I believe that the 88 verte has a lsd. If I am wrong please correct me. Also is there any real downside to a convertible vs a coupe. Thanks in advance. I did do a search on the body kit, but couldnt find anything specific.

 

The exterior body panels are identical on a 'vert vs a coupe, so coupe bumper is the same bumper that is on a 'vert. And any body kit that would fit a coupe, would fit a 'vert with the exception of kits that have a spoiler that mounts to the rear hatch back window of a coupe.

You can even use a coupe rear spoiler on a vert with minor mounting tweaks.

No 'vert came with a factory LSD. This can be found at the sticky thread at the top of this section that says standard features and options.

 

I saw that they didnt come with a viscous lsd, but I wasnt for sure if it didnt come with the gear driven lsd. So just wanted some clarification. thank you for your reply.

the only downside to a vert... IMO. when it rains, you will get rained on, if your weather stripping is aging... and can lead to rust issues if not taken care of.

I have to weld in new seat mounts to the floor ccuz the mount spots on the frame rusted out...

and they weigh about 380lbs more than a coupe.

 

On the bright side, chicks dig it in the summer with the top down.

The vert is hevier which is a downside from a performance point of view.

Personally, I prefer the coup's, but I also live in a climate that has 4 seasons; Winter, Still WInter, Almost Winter, and Construction. aka not the best vert climate.

 

Well... down here in South Florida it's Summer, Summer, Hot Summer, and a week long winter which consists of 5 or 6 days of 75 degree temperatures lol
