88 Conv needs a new motor... booo!
Well my 88 conv is down for the count. Compression test confirmed that I need a rebuild. There is a local person in Blackwood, NJ, JPR Imports. It's a 1 guy shop. I did notice that he was dropping a tricked out rotary into an older Porche, when I paid him a visit, so that's promissing. I guess I am on the fence on spending 2-3k. Any suggestions that would help? I guess I should also ask how much a 88 conv in good cond with a bad motor is worth in cash.
Thanks for any help in advance...

i'll give you 100 dollars, cash. Other than that, how much is it worth to you? You won't find any seven with a blown engine going for much over 1500, and that's assuming beatuiful exterior/interior. You might want to snoop around the "cars for sale" section on the "for sale" section at the front page of this forum to get a better idea.

Thank you
Appreciate the info. I posted it for 1200, just to see. I guess I am weary of 2-3k not knowing how good the guy's work is. Anyone give rec for someone in NJ to do rebuild?

If you want a change of RX-7's or another car, then now's the time to do it.
There's guys on the nopistons.com Northeast forums who can find you a good rebuilder in NJ.

Gee a whole $150..... in cash dollars....
Anyway, I went and had it towed and looked at. Motor appears to be decent, but my air flow is off, so that might be a pump or regulator problem. I did ruin the converter, so I get to buy a new exhaust. Any recommendations?

I can't help you with the exhaust, i'm looking at a custom exhaust after my turbo.

Compression test
I took it to someone who has the Mazda compression test unit. I thought my rigged unit might be wrong. Plus it would have taken me a lot longer to figure out the air problem.
I am thinking of replacing the entire exhaust, so I am lookng for the most street legal (or slightly les than legal ) setup.
