88 or 89?

Okay, so everyone i know tells me that if i were to get a rx7, a 89-91 is the way to go. What i was wanting to know, is the early S5 models, really that much better than the late s4 type?

89 is better all around. Higher compression, Better intake, better looks (my opinion) More HP.

It's all dependant on way too many variables. If you want to keep just a reletively stock car, then got for the S5. You'll have more power and a stronger possibillity of getting bigger brakes, pluss a number of other features. S5's, however, are heavier than S4's and have higher compression (sometimes good, sometimes bad). S4's, everything else being equal, can handle more boost and be much more forgiving, and the Sport and S4 GTU cars handle better due to lack of extra features and lower weight.

the thing is, im planing to modify it, and i was wondering if there is any reason to look for the S5, since 88's seem way more common.

i would like a T II, and i really don't have a particular goal in mind, goal is basically, to the extent my funds can go.

well if you plan on putting down a lot of power then the S4 is going to be a better start, if you retain a stock motor. If you rebuild, port, and use S4 rotors, then the S5 has a lot more to offer.

I'd still pick an S5 TII or N/A. The only thing the S4 TII has going for it is the Rtek chips. You can easily remove some "features" to get a S5 to the same weight as a S4. 4-pots are way better then single.

from what you guys told i would too, except for the fact that a T II S5 seems extremely hard to come by

S5 TII's are EASY to come by if you don't mind spending the extra money or going out of your way to go get it. S4 TII's are far more abundant and cheaper.

Oh, an 4-pot breaks were available on both series'.

In my opinion the S5's look better and come with better goodies. The S5 TII comes with a viscous type LSD, the turbo setup is much better (you can boost higher and don't have to port the wastegate) Both N/A and TII come with lighter higher compression rotors. The trim and bumpers are much nicer along with the interior. A S4 N/A would be anywhere between $500-$2000. A S4 TII would run any where between $1500-$3000. S5 N/A's run anywhere from $1500-$4000 (GTUs) and S5 TII's can run as high as $6000.
